Ultrasonic tests

Our materials testing and diagnostic laboratory uses state-of-the-art ultrasonic inspection equipment, enabling a wide range of non-destructive testing applications for equipment and structural materials. Ultrasonic testing can be used in an integrated manner alongside other flaw detection tests, as well as independently, depending on requirements.

Ultrasound refers to high-frequency vibrations that propagate in straight lines through solids and are reflected at interfaces. The devices used in this method utilise the piezoelectric effect, whereby vibrational waves are generated by means of alternating current applied to a quartz crystal. These waves are transmitted into the material to be tested from different directions by means of an intermediary medium, known as a couplant. Ultrasonic testing is widely used for the non-destructive examination of discontinuities in plates and welded joints, as well as for checking material thicknesses (wall thicknesses).
